Those spies would have brought Hougen or Sniper down upon the Ohu army, and everyone would have died. I think Jerome made the right call.

HOWEVER, I also understand why Weed would think sparing the spies could work, just because he got some of his best allies like Rocket and Tesshin that way (and Rikiya's followers, and the Koga dogs, etc.). In fairness, it has worked out for him in the past.

I just read the scene where GB announces to Weed that his dad is dead, and my heart broke. "HE ISN'T IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE!" And then Weed just started screaming. Seeing Weed smash his head into that tree was extremely upsetting. </3

What Weed didn't understand is that chances have limits and that there are some villains that are not worth redeeming or refuse to change when given that opportunity. So on that side of the situation, Jerome did the right thing to kill those assassins, even if he felt down and that Weed was making a point with his weak-ass moral on life.

Exactly! Weed, honey bunny, some people never change even if you give them chance after chance. Those boys had more than enough time to change their mind, and what Lector and Thunder did was especially unforgivable as they tortured and attempted to kill a puppy. Why would you want them as your ally or let them live? Even if they're strong, they have willingly chosen to be monsters. If you let them live, they'll just hurt someone else.

And even if Weed wants to let someone live, it's not fair to ask his subordinates to do the same thing, especially when their enemies are targeting them too.

The majority of the Hybrid arc hasn't been translated into English yet. But I was able to see what happens. So here's a summary for you:

Weed and some comrades meet his long-lost brother Joe and his allies after Weed reunites with Koyuki and Kotetsu in the Northern Alps after Viktor's defeat at the end of the Russian arc. Joe recently had a family that was murdered by one of the three Hybrid bears. Koshiro is his only surviving son. Therefore, Joe wants revenge and avenge his family. So Weed and his comrades agree to fight with him after Joe promises to meet Gin after dealing with those bears.

Weed and the Ou soldiers then proceed to eventually defeat and kill the first two bears. With additional help from Joe's human owner. But their victory against the second is short-lived, as the Final Hybrid immediately shows itself and mourns the death of its child. The Final Hybrid is too powerful at the moment, so the Ou soldiers flee for now.

Ben also passes away in this arc. Gin and his generational allies mourn for him at Futago Pass.

When it starts to rain in the Northern Alps, Weed has some members go to Joe's owner's home to ensure their safety. Either because they are injured or are unable to fight. The Ou dogs to go are Lydia, Koyuki, Kotetsu, Koshiro, and Sasuke. When Weed orders GB to escort them, GB gets upset. It appears that GB wanted to stay and fight and prove that he is not some weakling and can be strong and courageous, and he feels offended or disrespected because the dogs are looking down on him or think of him as too weak. While he goes to escort the departing Ou dogs in tears, I think there is a hint that Weed only sent GB away because he knew that GB had a caring and kind heart, not because GB was weak.

GB and his group encounter the Hybrid bear and have some struggles against it. But eventually, there were able to escape from it, with all of them avoiding death. They meet up with Hiro and Ken along the way. But those two run off to join the rest of the Ou army group.

GB's group eventually reach the human's home and rest there while Weed and the soldiers continue their fight against the Hybrid bear. Later, George gets injured, and he is taken to the human's home as well. After George is brought there, GB and Sasuke run off to find Weed's big group. Joe's owner and Bomb, one of his allies, follow.

Then here comes the part where the Hybrid bear suddenly takes a nap, and Weed and the soldiers decide to SLEEP WITH IT.

I didn't know why that was the case. But Methpring told me why, explaining that their only goal is to push the Hybrid off a cliff and down into a river to kill it since their fangs won't do the trick. Therefore, Joe suggests to rest as well. And so they do, with some of the soldiers keeping an eye on the bear uncomfortably.

When GB and Sasuke are about to arrive, the Hybrid wakes up and is about to attack Weed. But GB rushes in just in time to save Weed. He leaps and clamps on the bear with his jaws, directing its attention to him. The bite doesn't hurt the bear. So it brings its claws down onto GB's back, and the bear injures him.

While the Ou soldiers chase the bear, Weed comforts the injured GB. Unfortunately, I don't know what the dialogue is yet. But it looks emotional.

Weed orders Sasuke to look after GB and goes to rejoin their other comrades. However, GB refuses to be held back. He tries to convince Sasuke and Hiro to take him to Weed so he can protect him. But Hiro refuses. Sasuke holds GB back when the English Setter tries to go after their comrades. GB gets knocked out but wakes up later when Sasuke thought that he was dead.

Finally, Sasuke later takes GB to the battlefield where their comrades are fighting the Hybrid bear near the cliff. And then, GB charges ahead, despite Sasuke trying to stop him. The Hybrid is about to claw Weed, but GB howls to direct its attention to him. GB chomps down tightly onto one of the bear's fingers. Despite getting fatally injured more, GB rips off the finger and sends the bear tumbling down the cliff. But the bear manages to save itself at the last second.

I'm pretty sure you already know what the next part is. GB dies in Weed's arm, and Weed and the army mourn for him in tears. One of the saddest deaths in Ginga.

Weed is filled with revenge, and, with help from Jerome and Jerome, he Battougas the bear before the bear could climb all the way back up. The bear plummets into the river, and Weed and Jerome fall with it. Later, the bear is seen stuck inside a dam, dead.

The Ou army searches for Weed and Jerome but cannot find them. Sasuke stays to search more while the Ou army accepts that they might be dead. Lydia and the other dogs that were kept in the human's home are freed, and Joe and Koshiro go with them. After the Ou soldiers spend some time around GB's grave, they depart back toward Futago Pass. Later, Sasuke finds Jerome unconscious. Weed, on the other hand, is found by a human boy. He soon recovers and goes back to the battlefield. Jerome and Sasuke find him there, and they also spend some time around GB's grave before they leave to catch up with all of their comrades. They catch up, and Lydia and Koyuki are overjoyed to reunite with their husbands.

Now that they all return to Futago Pass, Gin is emotional to meet Joe for the first time ever. A couple of months later, Koyuki gives birth to the Star Sibs. A few days later, Lydia gives birth to her and Jerome's pups. And at the end of the final GDW volume, Daisuke names Weed and Koyuki's red-furred son "Orion."

Coming back to this little compilation of the timeline I did in the Ginga Densetsu Requiem spoiler thread in order to figure out Weed's current age:

Okay, I'm trying to gather a timeline here about how old Weed probably is:

SPOILER

-Beginning of GDW: summer, Weed and GB meet when Weed is about a few months old, probably no older than half a year. All the flashbacks to puppy Weed and his siblings show lush backgrounds, meaning that it was probably spring when he was born.

-Hougen arc ends, spring begins. Weed is at least one year old at this point. Monkeys, Russian war dogs and hybrids happen during the summer. At the end of the hybrid saga it is said that it's soon autumn. Weed's puppies are born right after.

-Beginning of GDWO: autumn, which soon turns into the winter that lasts the entire story. Weed puppies are still very young, so this is Weed's second winter. He probably around 2 years old by the end of GDWO.

-Beginning of TLW: another summer. The narrator says that Weed's sons have been training on Akameyama for a year, so Weed is probably around 3 years old now. The series ends during the next winter.

-Beginning of GDN: spring/summer. The narrator says that Orion had left Ohu following the events at the end of TLW before the spring, so it's been at least a couple months. If my estimates are correct, the end of TLW was Weed's fourth winter, making him four years old now.

I don't think we have clear information on how long after Requiem takes place after GDN, but if it's only months, then Weed should be around 4 years old, I think.

And I've been now rereading some of Ginga Densetsu Weed manga, and I am finding some...inconsistencies.

-Volume 35, page 154 (Finnish version) narrator mentions it being autumn. Reika and Hiro's puppies (who are only a little bit older and Koyuki and Weed's kids) are born at this time, and soon after Weed and Koyuki meet.

-During the interval between the monkey saga and Russian war dog saga it is mentioned that it's been three months since Sasuke and Chako met when Sasuke was on a mission to inform Gin and the other Ou soldiers about the events in Echigo involving the monkeys.

-During the Russian war dog saga it is mentioned that it's summer - Gin and the other Ou soldiers are suffering from the heat when they are trapped.

-At the end of hybrid bear saga (takes place directly after Russian war dogs) it is mentioned that it's almost autumn again. The beginning of GDWO is also in autumn with Weed's kids being probably around a month old.

So in short:
Autumn right after the monkey saga - summer during war dogs - hybrid saga ends/GDWO starts with autumn.

It all would fit in a place if the narrator text from GDW volume 35 was just a slip up and it was actually still summer/spring, but if we take it at face value, it makes absolutely no sense.
