Old Finnish Ginga fanart contests

Post by Digsu »

In 2010 and 2011, two fanart contests were held for Finnish Ginga fans: the 2010 one was held by Anime magazine, while the second one was held by the publisher of the Finnish translation of GNG. All the submitted works were originally archived on Kaksoissola.net (link goes to the Wayback Machine's version of the contest page), but unfortunately the site seems to have recently shut down and the images don't seem to be available on the Wayback Machine

As it happens, I downloaded all the images a few years ago and figured I might as well post them here for preservation's sake :orion3:

The 2011 contest was split into "young" and "old" divisions ("young" meaning "younger than 12 years old" and "old" meaning "older than 12 years old"), while the 2010 contest apparently didn't separate contestants by age. The 2010 contest also included the participants' hometowns with their entries, while the 2011 didn't

This is really cool to see! Lots of varying styles and skill levels. I also find it interesting Ginga appeals to a younger audience despite its subject matter (seeing that there was a category for "under 12 years old" gave me whiplash) but hey I got into Ginga at around 10 years old. Gives a little insight to cultural differences as to what is for children or not.

Also funny seeing fanart with Hyena among dead characters given what we know now after GDN lmao
