Special edition GNG label whisky released in Japan

Post by Digsu »

This felt like such a bizarre thing that I felt it warranted its own topic.

Ginga whisky :surprisegin:

According to the official store page, it's made by the Scottish Ardmore distillery and had a limited batch of 198 bottles. This news article says it went on sale roughly a month ago, on March 16th.

Never expected to see the day we'd see officially licensed Ginga booze, but here we are :surprisegin:

I have the strangest sense of patriotism in knowing that Ginga whiskey is distilled in my home country. :nosebleed:

Also, could they not have picked a better label for the bottle than the Shin Gaiden cover of Gin, John and Kurotora mourning Benizakura? What's the subliminality there? "Benizakura is dead, let's drink to drown our sorrows"? :THOT:

This is without a doubt the most bizarre "collectable" thing to come out of the Ginga franchise.

I've wanted to know the reason why, and the only thing I can find from the websites is that whiskey collector Hideo Yamaoka did a survey and GNG is popular among bartenders? That's it? :bon3:

Looking at Whisky Mew's catalog, they seem to have sold a bunch of different whiskeys with special "old school shounen manga" labels. I guess that's just something they specialize in.

It is admittedly a pretty strange niche, but since they all seem to be sold out, it seems to be working out well enough.

THAT GOES WITHOUT SAYING!
I did a Ginga dog horoscope and according my calculations, I am most like Gin! Am I lucky?

I took one of those 'Which character are you?' tests, one which happened to be Ginga related and it said I would
be most like Tesshin! I feel quite honoured!

I'm curious if anyone on GB managed to get ahold of one of these! I checked the breweries website and apparently they ship worldwide, but obviously this is sold out now. I really wanted one because it's such a seemingly random collectible. I don't even drink but man I'd love to have it! Even just the empty bottle would be nice.

This is so interesting and unique. Definitely not something I would expect for official merch.
