I actually had to look this up myself, because the original Japanese literally just says the brakes "heated up" and I had to make sure it wasn't just an idiom or something. But yes, apparently bicycle brakes can overheat if you brake too long/hard!

And apparently, this also implies to cars. Which convinces me that it's the same for every bike and vehicle. That's just scary.

Initial reaction:
Everything seems to be normal for Otto, I guess. He's just eating in a cafeteria with nothing else happening. Does that mean that his music teacher did not spread the word of him using the staff bathroom?

Aw, look at Otto hugging and kissing Roku. So sweet.

If I can tell correctly, that man is Ken's owner? Or not?

Where is the man taking Otto that makes Roku so concerned?

Oh, never mind. Otto stays with Roku.

It's snow time again. Roku and the two boys are really having fun in the snow and-

Yup. I knew it. Here comes Ken again. And Roku is pissed at him for coming again. But damn, those two dogs just don't like each other that much.

Well that whole "Otto accidentally uses the staff toilet" thing ended quite anticlimactically.

That whole scene with Mr. Yoshida is just making me wonder how my dog would react if she thought someone was trying to kidnap me. Otto being so happy about Roku being worried about him is really cute, though.

In the first text box on page 10, the narration inexplicably refers to Otto in third person. I have no idea why and since it switches back to Otto referring to himself in the first person in the second panel, I assumed it was a mistake and fixed it in the translation.

"Thinking about it now, maybe that wasn't the right thing to do." Yoshi my dude, the two were tearing each other apart there, I'm pretty sure one of them would have died if people hadn't intervened and the two of them getting a swollen head because "AT LEAST I DIDN'T LOSE" is probably the preferable alternative. At least Otto recognizes that Roku not going out of his way to attack Ken is a "major victory".

The ox being called Kuro, which is both very similar to Roku and literally Roku's irl name, is kind of weird and confusing and I just wish Yoshi had come up with some other name for him. Also it technically never states whether Kuro is male or female but referring to him as just "it" was confusing and judging by the fact that he's a draft animal and lacks udders I'm guessing he's male.

God, I know he's a kid but Otto is so stupid and irresponsible no matter how badly his dog gets hurt or hurts someone. I seriously hope this is the last we hear of these two fighting

Oh, so this Yoshida guy was only pretending to kidnap Otto to see how Roku would react? Fair enough. Roku really cares about Otto and wants to protect him. What a great boy.

It's snow season, which means that it's also rival season between Roku and Ken. Geez, they really hate each other so much that they're coming to a point of going way too violent and try to kill each other? I think it's best for Roku to stay away from now on, but I don't think we have seen the last of this. But wow, Roku is proud of this "major victory." Hopefully he has kicked Ken's ass off of his property from now on.

Oxen are, by definition, already castrated so at least that shouldn't be a concern. But again Kuro's sex isn't actually mentioned in Japanese, nevermind whether he's intact or not, so I'm just assuming he's a castrated male since apparently that's the most common type of cattle used as draft animals.

It is a nice cover... though ngl it kinda bothers me that it's clearly based on the chapter image of chapter 21 and thus it constantly reminds me of the chapter where the main conflict was the main character really needing to poop.

I guess that explains why it feels like we've just been speedrunning Otto's childhood for the past few chapters, since it seems like every other chapter has a year pass. I guess the biggest question now would be if there'll be another series after this or if Yoshi is finally allowed to retire.

Also the story coming to an end is referenced on the final page of chapter 22, but I wasn't sure if it was referring to the story as a whole or just the story of the ox so I went with the latter. I've adjusted the translation so it now mentions the series ending (as well as the relatively minor thing of Aki talking about writing a "what I did on my summer vacation" essay despite despite the narration saying literally two pages ago that it's spring, so he's probably actually talking about an essay he'll have to write during summer vacation. Again, very minor thing but it'd just keep bothering me if I didn't fix it.)

I suppose this also means that Chapter 24 is the final chapter. Now let's hope that Takahashi-san will finally retire peacefully instead of the company keeping him on a leash.
